These Principles Are the Best Way to fix and keep your Mac working while eliminating issues before they turn into problems.

How to shut off extensions for one Boot (for OS 7.x 8.x and 9.x)

Use this when rebuilding the desktop or to test for Extension issues.
Start or restart the Macintosh. After the Chime, hold down the Shift Key until the big box comes up and says "Extensions Off".
This can be done in conjunction with Rebuilding the Desktop

If it doesn't work -
make sure you press the shift key in the center and all the way down (common)
Also, sometimes it may take two times if there is a major problem. (rare)

How to rebuild the desktop (for OS 7.x 8.x and 9.x)

1. Start or restart the Macintosh.
After the Chime, hold down the Option and Command (aka Apple or 4 leaf clover) until you see the dialog box that says,
"Do you Want to Rebuild the Desktop on Your Hard Drive?"

This will repeat for each drive you have installed.
(Note: this will erase any notes that you may have put in the Get info boxes, found when you choose a file or drive and click Command - I)
(99% of users don't use this feature, I dont recommed it either).

How to Zap the Pram in OS 7,8,9

Shut down or Restart the Mac and then immediately and concurrently hold down Option- Apple Key- P-R until the Mac rings twice and let go.

How to check if your installed hard drive, cdr or cdrw drive is macintosh OS 9 compatible

1. Click on the Apple on the top left, and scroll down to Apple System Profiler
2. Let go and Click on "Devices and Volumes"
3. Note the Mechanism model, Firmware version, Mechanism vendor

FireWire and USB CD-R drives are compatible with iTunes when used with Mac OS 9

How to take a Picture of the Desktop In OS

Out of the Many helpful hints, this tip seems to always bring a special saying of "Coool"...

Hold Down the keys Command + Shift and press the 3 (this works in OS X as well)
presto, you now have a Picture of the desktop! Hide all your windows, it will be shown on the desktop as Picture-1 (or Picture-2, etc)

Additional Tips: Hold Down the Apple Command Key and Shift Key First, then press (type) the appropriate number. A prolonged holding of the number will not produce a picture. This tip applies anytime you use the Apple Command Key.
