In Mac OS X 10.4, there is a small bug that when you open the Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network window, there is a window that continually opens that says that

"Network Settings have been changed by another Application". When you click Ok, the window just opens again.

This can be frustrating. Here is a way to resolve it.

1. You can safely shut this window without 'Force-Quitting' by hovering the mouse over the red 'Close Window Button' on the top left of the window, clicking 'Ok' by pressing Return or Enter, on the keyboard, then clicking the red button right away with the mouse.

Once you have closed this window, re-open System preferences, and click sharing in the third row. Then click 'Internet' in the top row of buttons.

You will see this window

sharing-window

Under this section " to computers using" check a box that is different from what is chosen in the " share your connection from" section immediately above.

It does not matter what you choose, this is only to solve the issue of the recurring sign saying that the network settings have been changed by another application under network.

I like to choose built-in FireWire, since this will not compromise your data in any way.

This is also a to turn your Mac into a router and share your Internet wirelessly without having router, but this is for another page. If you purchase one of our Mac USB wireless adapters, simply asked for our PDF on how to do this.

Once you have checked the box, click start above, then click show all on the top of this window.

You can now click network and the sign will be gone.

That's it!
